I recently came across the new XReal S1, the smart glasses from XReal (REAL, Inc.), and undoubtedly represent an interesting evolution within the virtual display ecosystem. This new S1 version comes with better technical specifications and a more competitive price, reinforcing the proposal of a brand that is already recognized for its focus on augmented reality applied to entertainment and content creation.

The XReal S1 incorporates a 1200p HD resolution, a 52-degree field of view, and the X1 chip, The new model, which is also present in other models of the brand, is also available. This combination allows a visual experience sharp, smooth and stable, ideal for prolonged consumption of digital content. In terms of performance, they are clearly intended to function as a personal virtual screen, rather than as a simple experimental gadget.

One of the aspects that most caught my attention is the new functionality to convert content specifically from 2D to 3D images, which runs directly from the glasses. This feature significantly raises the level of immersion and opens up new possibilities for the consumption of movies, video games and multimedia experiences without the need for complex configurations.

In addition, the XReal S1 can be complemented with the device XReal Eye, which adds advanced augmented reality capabilities, and they feature Enhanced audio output with Sound by Bose, This is a key detail that directly impacts the sensory experience and reduces the friction of use by not relying on external headphones.

As for the design, it is clear that the XReal S1 are not intended for everyday use Their approach is more functional than aesthetic, which positions them as an ideal device for long journeys, airports, gaming sessions, watching sports or consuming content on the move. In that sense, they fulfill their role as an immersive entertainment tool very well.

Currently, they can be found at Amazon and in the official XReal store. for an approximate price of USD $449, which places them in an interesting range considering their technical capabilities.

The XReal S1 not to replace smart glasses for everyday use, but to establish itself as an important high quality portable virtual display. From a UX perspective, their proposition is clear: maximize immersion, reduce technical friction and deliver powerful visual experiences in specific contexts.

While there is still a gap between these devices and mass adoption, proposals such as 2D to 3D conversion, premium audio integration and a more accessible price point indicate that the future of virtual displays is not so far away. The XReal S1s are a good example of how augmented reality can move from being a futuristic concept to becoming a practical, enjoyable and increasingly closer to the end user..
