In the smart glasses ecosystem, increasingly robust offerings are beginning to emerge, and Rokid is one of the ones that has caught my attention the most recently, especially because of its obvious aesthetic similarity to the Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses. However, beyond the design, Rokid has a very clear vision: to combine augmented reality and artificial intelligence for both entertainment and professional and industrial applications.

In terms of design, Rokid glasses stand out for being lightweight and unobtrusive, weighing approximately 49 grams—a key factor for extended use throughout the day. They feature gesture control and voice commands, as well as real-time translation in more than 80 languages, making them a powerful tool for communication and productivity. They also support horizontal video recording and integrate notifications from popular apps like YouTube and TikTok, expanding their use beyond purely functional purposes.

One key difference from the Ray-Ban Meta is the charging system: Rokid opts for a simpler case that does not double as a charging dock. Instead, the glasses are charged using external cables. This may seem like a minor detail, but from a user experience perspective, it’s an aspect that could be improved in future versions.

Technical capabilities designed for AR and AI

On the technical side, Rokid features the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 processor, designed specifically for augmented reality experiences. This chip features four 1.9 GHz Kryo cores, an Adreno GPU, up to 2 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and a Hexagon NPU, which allows AI functions to run directly on the device without constantly relying on the cloud.

The glasses feature ChatGPT-4, which opens the door to contextual assistants, quick queries, and real-time content generation. For capturing images and video, Rokid uses a 12 MP Sony IMX681 camera with a 109-degree field of view, HDR support, and digital stabilization—ideal for first-person content. The audio system is rounded out by four microphones with wind noise reduction and AAC near-ear speakers, offering a more private and clear audio experience.

Smart Teleprompter and Accessibility

One of the features that caught my attention the most is its smart teleprompter, which can display the words being spoken in real time as subtitles, adjusting to the speed of speech and pauses. This feature is especially useful for presentations, content creation, and, above all, for people with hearing impairments.

In addition, AI can convert voice commands into text, transcribe meetings, identify different speakers, and generate intelligent summaries—features that fit perfectly into professional and collaborative workflows.

Rokid's smart glasses offer a well-balanced combination of design, light weight, and advanced AI and AR capabilities. Although there are still some details to be refined in the user experience—such as the charging system—their technical and functional approach makes them a serious contender in the smart glasses market, especially against established options like the Ray-Ban Meta.

From a UX perspective, Rokid demonstrates that the future of smart glasses isn't just about looking good, but about integrating naturally into everyday life, improving productivity, and expanding accessibility. At UX Yeah, we'll be keeping a close eye on the evolution of this device, because everything indicates that Rokid still has a lot to show.
